People Inc. – Managing SQL Server Transaction Logs

This FAQ describes the management of the size of the SQL Server transaction logs associated with People Inc. databases. In a default installation of SQL Server (and People Inc.) these log files may expand to an unacceptable size. The expansion of the transaction logs can make it difficult to back data up and in the most serious scenario, make the associated databases unusable.

There are occasions when a user’s computer is not shut down properly or the network connection is lost. This can result in a user’s session getting ‘locked’. This can in turn result in the computer stating that too many People Inc. users are logged in. In this case, the sessions need to be manually terminated. System licenses are issues to People Inc. clients (one license per system). The People Inc. licenses define the scope of the access provided to the various elements of the People Inc. system for that client. Exporting data from a screen in People Inc.

As with most HR Software Systems or Personnel Software, there will be a need a some point extracting data from the database and pumping it into a different tool such as Microsoft Excel. In most instances using People Inc this is typically done using a report and saving the file type as a XLS file or PDF etc.
